YMC Weight Loss and Metabolic Surgery Center

Laparoscopic bariatric surgery is considered as a treatment option for patients whose BMI* is 30kg/㎡ or greater with comorbidities such as diabetes, hypertension, dyslipidemia and sleep apnea syndrome.

And YMC Weight Loss and Metabolic Surgery Center has experienced the largest number of bariatric and metabolic surgery cases in Japan.

Our surgeons are well-trained in bariatric and metabolic surgery practice in high volume centers overseas (including the United States, Australia and Brazil), and are familiar with the complex physiology and management of morbidly obese individuals.

Our center provides a comprehensive to the management of obesity and associated comorbidities with a team that works together with surgeons specialized in bariatric surgeries, nutritionist, sports trainer and a public health nurse. We also provide the best means for achieving sustainable long-term weight reduction.

Costs for each procedure performed at YMC

Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy (LSG):1,900,000yen + tax

with the coverage of national health insurance*:approximately 800,000yen + tax

Laparoscopic Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass (LRYGB): 2,000,000yen + tax

Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy with Duodeno-Jejunal Bypass (LSG-DJB):2,191,000yen + tax

Endoscopic Intragastric Balloon:540,000yen + tax

*In Japan, Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy is the only procedure covered by national health insurance at the moment, for patients whose BMI is over 35 with comorbidities.

How to make an appointment

If you wish to arrange an initial appointment or have further inquiries, please contact us by email (genryou@mcube.jp). The person in charge will get back to you as soon as possible.

For our records, please let us know if you are a member of Japanese national health insurance when arranging the initial appointment. If you are not a member, we advise you to check with your insurance company if your insurance policy will cover the cost of the surgery at our facility.

And if possible, please ask your primary care doctor to prepare a medical referral letter. Although this is not essential, it will help us to understand your medical background.

Dr. Kazunori Kasama, MD, FACS

Dr. Kasama is the director of the Weight Loss and Metabolic Surgery Center at YMC, and is the president of the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders Asia Pacific Chapter (IFSO-APC) [2018-2020], Executive board of IFSO [2016-2020], Past president of Asia Pacific Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Society [2016-2018], Chair of International Affair committee of Japan Society of Endoscopic Surgery[2018~ ], a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS), a regular member of the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS). and the Japanese representative of the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders (IFSO).
Since 2002, he has performed more bariatric surgeries in Japan than any other practitioner, and has performed live surgery demonstrations all over the world.

Dr. Yosuke Seki, MD, PhD

Dr. Seki is a consultant surgeon of the Weight Loss and Metabolic Surgery Center and the chief of the division of clinical research at YMC. He has vast experience with laparoscopic bariatric and metabolic surgery. He completed two overseas fellowships in bariatric and metabolic surgery at Flinders University in Adelaide, Australia and at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, US. He is an international member of the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) and a member of the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders (IFSO).
